Description

Early 19th century. Substantial U-plan steading range

with free standing rectangular centre stable block. All

coursed rubble with contrasting tooled grey granite

dressings.

U-PLAN RANGE: wide S facing 5-bay centre block with rear

wing formerly containing threshing machinery motivated by

water wheel (removed). Centre segmental-headed entrance

flanking each side by single window and with pedestrian

doorways in outer bays. 7 regular loft vents below eaves.

5 single storey segmental-headed arched bays flank centre

block each side; return wings containing byres, which

have been altered at E.

STABLE BLOCK: long rectangular single storey and loft

stable block also containing forge-workshop and farm workers' accommodation.

Slate roofs (probably Aberdeenshire slates) throughout.

Statement of Interest

Mill pond at N of steading supplied water to activate mill

wheel. Wheel and mill machinery removed during 1950s.

Steading used for agricultural purposes until mid 1980s.
