TOP (KITCHEN) GARDEN: 1711 and 1872. Rectangular-plan walled garden (top garden) to E of stables. Earlier N wall of brick on rubble base (possibly 16th century); coped rubble to other elevations. Incorporating rose garden (possibly 16th century, see Notes) and 1993 astrological garden.
N GARDEN: 1796. Rectangular-plan walled garden to N with. Red brick. Lean-to polychrome brick ancillary to SW, with gothic-arched openings, centre door with flanking decoratively-astragalled windows. Celtic cross of fibre glass (see Notes).
Evidence for a sixteenth century garden is noted in records which mention a 1575 sundial. The 1796 northerly garden incorporates 'hot walls' with flues from coal burning stoves. During the 1990s Megginch Castle grounds were used for the filming of 'Rob Roy', some stage props were left including the fibre glass cross. Megginch Castle estate includes Chapel, Gothic Arch, Icehouse, Kennels Cottage, Kingdom Farmhouse, North Lodges, Stables (with Dovecot), Wardheads and West Lodge all listed separately.
