Description

Atributed to David bryce, circa 1844. Single storey, gabled asymmetrical Tudar Lodge. Squared and coursed cream sandstone rubble, ashlar dressings. Base course, architraved windows, overhanging eaves, bargeboards and kingposts.

N (entrance) elevation: 2 bays; gabled bay to outer right with roll-moulded and lugged architraved doorpiece, boarded door with decorative cast-iron hinges. Moulded stone panel over doorpiece with armorial shield panel above. Canted and gabled window to left with chamnfered angels swept to square at eaves and 1-2-1 lights with panelled aprons.

E (SIDE) ELEVATION: gabled return with tripartite window with hoodmould.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: modern additions.

Grey slate roof, tall corniced and coped paired stacks.

GATEPIERS: 4 simple rendered tapering piers with chamfered angles; 2 corniced ashlar outer piers. Decorative wrought-iron gates (pedestrian and carriage).

Statement of Interest

Preston House including screen wall and coach archway is listed separately above. Railings in quadrant form linking centre and outer gatepiers, now gone (1990).
