Description

Earlier 19th century. Single storey and attic, rectangular-plan, 3-bay cottage, with later blank bay to N. Stugged and snecked rubble, random rubble to rear, stugged and margined ashlar dressings, rendered and lined addition, rebuilt brick stacks on ashlar bases, slate roof. 4-pane and plate glass sash and case windows, hoodmoulds to door and windows at E elevation and S gable; bracketted eaves.

E ELEVATION: door to centre of original cottage, window to left and right, blank bay to far right.

S GABLE: blocked window, latice-paned window to attic.

W ELEVATION: 2 windows.

N GABLE: 2 doors to left, bipartite window to right.

INTERIOR: not seen.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: 2 pyramidal-capped gatepiers to Rossie policies, 2 smaller pyramidal-capped gatepiers to cottage, linked by low rubble wall with squared coping.

Statement of Interest

There was formerly a datestone ?1664? built into the S gable, now removed to Rossie Priory. The cottage is owned by the Rossie estate.
