Description

Earlier 19th century. Terrace of 5 single storey and attic 2-bay cottages. Cream sandstone.

Each cottage with boarded door and letterbox fanlight to right and narrow window to left; original catslide wallhead dormer breaking eaves above window and cast-iron rooflight to right. End gables blank, stacks to S gable of each cottage. Rear elevations with projecting flat-roofed closet to right and bipartite box-dormer to left.

8-pane timber sash and case windows, (12-lying-pane to front dormers). Stone stacks; grey slates.

Statement of Interest

Probably built to serve Mossburnford Mill. If so, this may explain the form of the cottages which is unusual for such a rural setting, being more typical of early urban industrial types.
