Description

Mid to later 18th century farmhouse, doubled in size by

earlier 19th century by addition of 3-bay house adjoined at

S. Red rubble with ashlar dressings, formerly harled.

18TH CENTURY HOUSE:

N (NEW) ELEVATION: 3-bay. Gabled stair bay projecting at

centre with 1886 gabled outbuilding adjoining at ground and

to left. Doorway blocked in outbuilding; addition of 20th

century porch.

W ELEVATION: 2-bay with one 1st floor window blocked.

E ELEVATION: 2-bay with 2 ground floor windows, one 1st floor

to left.

19TH CENTURY HOUSE:

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 3-bay, symmetrical. Pilastered ashlar

doorpiece. Panelled door with fanlight. Widely spaced

openings with larger ground floor windows. Eaves course.

W ELEVATION: 2-bay with one ground and one 1st floor window.

E ELEVATION: blank with 1st floor window.

12-pane, 4-pane and plate glass glazing pattern to sash and

case windows. Ashlar coped skews. Gable end stacks with some

early cans retained. Grey slates.

INTERIOR: tripartite vestibule screen with segmental fanlight

and tiled floor. Cast-iron stair balustrade. Skylight in

coved circular opening above stair. Simple classical timber chimneypieces. N extension to earlier house served as milk

house originally with flanking and marble shelves. 2 late

19th century enamel sinks by I and M Craig, Kilmarnock in

washroom.

Rubble drum gatepiers.

Statement of Interest

1766 lintel stone lying in garden may have come from doorway

of original house when abutted by new. Steading to N, listed

separately.
