Description

Large harled mansion of various dates. Original part
probably 1484 recast 16th century, 3-storey L-plan with
circular re-entrant stair-tower now gutted. Buttresses at
back added mid 18th century. W. wing originally plain
2-storey and basement 3-window. Circular tower heightened
probably c. 1800, back wing with bow probably of same date.
Large reconstruction John Smith 1840: old house doubled
to form approximately symmetrical U-plan section with
centre gable, interior almost completely remodelled. Porch
and quoins added to early 18th century W. wing probably
a little later. Extensively restored 1954-55
