Description

Existing fabric probably late 18th/early 19th century; south
wall rebuilt mid 20th century; L-plan rubble-walled garden
enclosure, with flat stone coping, latter swept up towards
higher east wall; Amisfield Tower incorporated in south west
angle. Decorative wrought-iron gate on south wall, lead spout
now set alongside (latter bears royal arms, is dated 1783(?)
and initialed FW).
Glass houses on north wall; west wall buttressed.

Statement of Interest

It is unlikely that a walled garden occupied roughly this

site, perhaps from as early as 1600, but existing walls are

later, and may be contemporary with the 1837 addition to

Amisfield House.

The lead spout is presumably imported.
