Description

D W Stevenson, 1885. 21' high polished Peterhead (pink) granite obelisk commemorating the work of Robert Moffat, missionary. Stepped plinth; round arched faces to pedestal above, 1 bearing alto-rilievo portrate

of Moffat in bronze, 2 with commemorative inscriptions; obelisk above.

Statement of Interest

Dr Moffat had been born in Ormiston in 1795. He was a fearless missionary in South Africa. Field Marshall Shute deemed (as the inscription declares) that "Among missionaries there was none holier than he".
