Probably Peddie and Walker Todd, 1931. U-plan group of 3 semi-detached local authority houses, single storey with attic in steeply pitched half-mansard roofs. Modern pivot sash windows. Brick base course, harling and grey slates.
3 AND 5, 8 AND 9: identical pairs.
E ELEVATION: 6 bays, mirrored about centre. 2 outer bays advanced at ground under sweeping eaves of mansard; doorway in penultimate bay flanked by small window in outer bay; recessed bays at centre breaking through mansard, with windows to each floor.
W ELEVATION: 4-bay. Doorways to centre bays, windows in outer bays.
N AND SW ELEVATIONS: gabled;chimney breast corbelled above ground at centre, with stack regrettably removed; glazed slit at ground at centre with window flanking to attic. Mutual gable stack retained.
6 AND 7:
E ELEVATION: 6 bays, mirrored at centre; 4 mansarded advanced M-gabled bays breaking through main mansard at centre. Doorways in penultimate bays with simple bracketted slab canopied; windows to each floor in centre bays; recessed outer bays blank.
W ELEVATION: 2-storey, minus lower pitch of mansard.
N AND S ELEVATIONS: lop-sided gable with mansard to E; set-off chimney breast to stack; ground floor window to E.
Attribution to Peddie and Walker Todd is probably because of the large number of local authority houses designed by them in East Lothian in the 1920s, bearing similar details. The mansard element is unusual. The houses are built on the site of former cattle and implement sheds, demolished for the purpose.
