Probably circa 1825. Barrel-vaulted icehouse with wide rectangular entrance to barrel-vaulted passageway, leading to rectangular inner gateway of funnel-floored ice chamber. Roughly coursed sandstone with tooled dressings and moulded architrave to inner gateway. Grass roof swept down to ground.
A well-preserved earlier 19th century icehouse which contributes to the historical integrity of the Blairquhan estate. As with most icehouses, it is built on raised, sloping ground near to a source of ice, in this case the Garden Pond and a stretch of the Water of Girvan known as Icehouse Pool. It faces E; most icehouses faced either N or SE, the latter to catch the morning sun to dispel damp. It was renovated in 1997.
