Description

Dated 1875. 2-storey, 4-bay house (originally with shop at ground) forming part of irregular terrace. Coursed stugged ashlar with polished dressings; painted rubble to rear. Base and dividing band courses; pilasters dividing bays at ground floor.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: narrow doorway in bay to outer left; modern boarded door; plate glass fanlight; Tripartite shop front comprised of door at centre (now blocked as window) flanked by large windows; 4 regular windows at 1st floor above.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: advanced pitched-roof wing (probably former stables) to outer right; forestair at gable-end; openings and box dormer to S elevation. 2 single windows to house in bay to outer left.

Small-pane casement windows at ground; 12-pane lying-pane sash and case windows at 1st floor. Grey slate roof; dentilled coping to brick gablehead stacks to N and S.

Statement of Interest

Forms part of Main Street B Group extending on E side from Dunbridge House to the Plough Hotel. A building is marked on this site on the 1st edition OS Map. This appears to have been rebuilt or remodelled as a shop in 1875.
