William Lambie Moffat c 1875. Gothic, single-storey H-plan,
red sandstone snecked rubble with dressings stugged uniform,
slated roof. Near-symmetrical S front, cross-wing forms
recessed centre, gablet over 3-light central window framed in
buttressed chimneys; advanced pavilions with roofs parallel
to main building, gables with 2-light windows and small inner
outshots facing into court, fronts 2-window (one
single-light, one 2-light) with central buttressed chimney
gablets. Flanks asymmetrical with gables on the axis of the
cross-range, asymmetrical N front with bellcote at W gable
and NW outshot at E gable porch and late brick chimney at
centre of cross range. Simple distinctive detailing,
shouldered and chamfered openings, relieving arches over 2
and 3-light gable windows quatrefoils and circlets in gables,
unusual square-plan gablet chimney pots pierced by trefoils.
Original gatepiers to Ladyloan.
Landmark at foreshore Windows boarded at date of visit, much
of stonework interestingly patterned by wind erosion.
