Description

Early 19th century. 3-storey, 2-bay tenement with shop at ground floor. Painted ashlar. 2nd floor cill course; eaves course; cornice. Moulded painted margins to upper floor windows.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: pilasters flank glazed timber entrance door to outer left; pilasters flank timber boarded door close entrance to outer right; modern shopfront window between. Regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors.

2-pane timber sash and case windows at upper floors. Grey slate roof; coped brick stack; circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Statement of Interest

Adjacent to Nos 6-10 Newmarket Street (see separate list description), 18 and 20 Hope Street provides a good example of early 19th century building with its strong cornice. The prominent cill course suggests the possibility of the 2nd floor added at a later date.
