Early 19th century. 3-storey, 5-bay tenement with shopfronts at ground floor. Squared, coursed sandstone. Cill course to 1st floor windows. Surrounds to 1st and 2nd floor windows.
NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: recessed timber door to centre; letterbox fanlight; corniced shopfront to left, modern glazed door with letterbox fanlight to left, shop window to right; bowed, corniced shopfront to right, central 2-leaf timber door; flanking windows. Regular fenestration at 1st and 2nd floors; blind central bay.
Plate glass timber sash and case windows to 1st and 2nd floors. Grey slate roof; low rendered wallhead stack to centre, brick stacks to outer left and right; circular cans.
INTERIORS: not seen 1998.
B Group with 3, 11 and 13, 15-19 (Odd Nos), 21-25 (Odd Nos), 27 and 29, 31-39 (Odd Nos), 41 and 43, 45-51 (Odd Nos), 53-57 (Odd Nos), 71, 4, 6-10 (Even Nos), 12, 18-22 (Even Nos), 30-38 (Even Nos), 40 and 42, 44 and 46, 48 and 50-66 (Even Nos) Newmarket Street. The street was developed along the lines of a lane in the 19th century, to give access to a new Butter Market on its N side.
