Description

Mid 19th century. Single storey (later attic to No 30), 3-bay, pair of cottages. Coursed sandstone. Base course; eaves course; strip quoins; architraved, square-headed openings.

NW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central entrances; glazed timber doors; letterbox fanlights; flanking single windows. Bipartite box dormer to right to No 30.

SW ELEVATION: gabled; harled; window off-centre to left in gablehead.

SE AND NE ELEVATIONS: not seen 1999.

Lying-pane glazing. Slate roof with lead ridge; stone skews; gablehead and ridge stacks; circular and polygonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIORS: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS, RAILINGS AND BOUNDARY WALL: square-plan painted gatepiers; spear-headed iron railings divide property; low coped boundary wall.

Statement of Interest

Notable for the retention of lying-pane glazing, railings, gatepiers and boundary wall, making a prominent contribution to the local streetscape. Marked on Ordnance Survey map, 1858 as South Place. Similar pair of cottages to Nos 34 and 36 Miller Place (see separate list description).
