Description

Late 18th century. 3-storey and attic, 6-bay tenement on corner site with 3-bay, 3-storey wing projecting to rear along Bolgam Street. Smooth cement-rendered, lined and painted elevation to SE (Main Street), roughcast upper floors at NE (Bolgam Street) elevations.

SE (MAIN STREET) ELEVATION: shopfront at ground floor, stone stall risers and mullions, shop doors in 2nd bay with window to left, shop door between 4th and 5th bays with flanking windows. Symmetrical upper floors comprising regular fenestration (grouped 2-2-2) and eaves course.

NE (BOLGAM STREET) ELEVATION: gable end with windows at each floor to outer right including square shop window at ground. 3-bay wing to right with entrance doors closely spaced at 1st bay, wide openings at 2nd and 3rd bays.

Plate glass fixed-light shop windows at ground floor, plate glass timber sash and case windows at 1st and 2nd floors. 2-leaf, 4-panel timber doors with rectangular plate glass fanlight above to Bolgam Street. Grey slate roof, 3 later piend-roofed, slate-hung timber canted dormers to Main Street pitch with plate glass timber sash and case windows. Cast-iron downpipes. Roughcast apex stack at NE gable, brick apex stack at NW gable.

Statement of Interest

A fine piece of burgh architecture and traditional tenement design in an important site, dating from the early 19th century building period in Campbeltown.
