Description

Built 1907 for Clydebank Co-operative Society Ltd

(Inscription). Symmetrical 3-storey front plus a low left

wing; polished red ashlar; stripped Edwardian baroque;

3-storey range has narrow outer pavilion bays each with bolection-moulded wide entrance, the left (to offices) with

original timber doors and multi-paned fanlight, 2nd floor

aedicules reach above eaves; 4 inner bays, large windows at

ground with T-shaped glazing (other windows plate glass

sashes), pedimented 1st floor windows, colonnaded "eaves

gallery" above. Corniced stacks, slate roof. Inside, the

boardroom is handsome and well-preserved - walls timber-

panelled below frieze, chimney piece set in Ionic-pilastered

and pedimented frame, Society crest in panel; decorative

ceiling plasterwork. Original details survive elsewhere;

entrance hall with leaded and acid-etched glass, timber

doorcases.
