Circa 1930. 2 channelled ashlar pillars with art deco
margins, architraved and keyblocked doorpiece with pulvinated
Greek key capitals and carriage lamps. Gates consist of
horizontal and vertical bars with narrow panels of cast
metal bas relief thistles and intertwined foliage. Smaller
pedestrian gate below plaque depicting Lawrence of Arabia
leaning on a camel.
The large camel which stood over the earlier arched gates
for many years has disappeared.
Bowbridge Works, founded by J and A Grimond in 1857 was
with Camperdown Works, the showpiece of the late 19th
century jute industry and employed over 3,000. Mill
demolished 1984, Factory and calender demolished 1987.
Warehouses and stables survive.
