Description

Circa 1815-1820. Tar house connected with Dundee Ropeworks.
2-storey rubble-built industrial vernacular.
E gable: ground floor large doorway with steel lintel,
formerly segmental-arched, small window to side. 1st floor
loading door and sash and case window. Attic opening for
timber hoist with pulley. Rings for flag-pole. Skew putts
and flat-topped finial. W gable similar, blocked segmental
arch and attic hoist opening.
S elevation: ground floor 2 doors, 2 windows and 2 wide
segmental arched openings, some partially blocked. 8 1st
floor 12-pane sash and case windows, 1 altered to receive an
overhead gangway.
N elevation: 3 ground floor and 7 blocked 1st floor windows.
Bases of 3 wallhead stacks (for boiling tar?)

Statement of Interest

Long associated with the Dundee Rope Works of A and H Buick.

A section of Bell's Rope Walk with a corrugated-iron roof

survives but is excluded from the list. Dundee Rope Works

mainly demolished.
