Description

Style of Walter Newall. Tall corner building with
classical details. 3 storeys and railed basement, with
similarly treated 3-bay elevations to Castle Street and
to George Street. Polished red ashlar with architraves.
Each elevation has central door with bold consoled hood,
bay nearest corner shallow advanced with bipartites
(these consoled except at 2nd floor) and with parapet over;
ground and 1st floor divided by string courses,
openings linked by shallow aprons. Sash windows;
bipartites plate glass, single windows mostly have
12-pane glazing pattern. Eaves course; cornice; unusual
stacks with ranks of square flues; slate roof.
