Description

Later 19th century with later additions and alterations. Mirrored pair of 2-storey, 3-bay terraced, classical houses. Polished ashlar, rubble to rear. Base course, band course, cill course to 1st floor, cornice and blocking course.

SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: pilastered and corniced doorpieces to centre bays, with pediment-tablet linking above; Edinburgh panelled, deep-set doors, plate glass rectangular fanlights and windows at 1st floor above each. Window to each floor of flanking bays.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: modern additional 3rd storey, with flat-roof to No 4 (seen from front), in re-entrant angle formed with No 298-300 High Street. Small extension to rear of No 6.

4-pane (No 4), plate glass (No 6) timber sash and case windows at No 4. Slate double-pitched roof, slated additional storey to rear. Ashlar skews and rendered and coped end stacks.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1994.

BOUNDARY WALLS: continuous in Bellfield Street; rubble with coping.

Statement of Interest

The houses do not appear on Sutter's map, 1856, but were built by 1891. No 4 named Cathkin, 1994.
