Description

Early 20th century, post 1913. Single storey, 3-bay, Scottish Arts and Crafts cottage with jamb at rear forming L-plan. White-painted harl with concrete cills; crowstepped gables.

SE ELEVATION: 3 asymmetrical bays. Broad gable advanced to outer right, sandstone canted window. Door with swept-roof porch to left, half-glazed door. Bipartite window to outer left, masonry mullion.

NW ELEVATION: 3-bay single storey block to right, door to outer right reached by plain masonry steps; boarded with 3-pane fanlight; 2 windows to left, that to inner left replacement. Jamb on falling ground with garage below; boarded garaage door to outer left; single window off-centre right at principal floor.

SW ELEVATION: gable with window to outer left.

12-pane sash and case windows; grey slate roof with lead flashings; apex stack at SW gable and wallhead stack at NE elevation.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALL: stugged rubble gatepiers with cornice and pyramidal cap. Stugged sandstone curving walls quadrant walls with semicircular coping.

Statement of Interest

The lodge is not shown on the 2nd edition map and so was built after 1913. It was fomerly the S lodge of Larch Grove. Larch Grove is listed separately, the E lodge of larch Grove and the main E gates are listed separately.
