Description

Early 19th century with later additions and alterations. 2-storey,

4 and 3 bay house on corner of Straiton Place and Marlborough Street; rectangular-plan with later single storey extension to SW. Finely droved, painted ashlar at 1st floor, polished ashlar dressings at ground; harled and painted side and rear elevations. Base course, broad band course, cornice and blocking course; aprons to 1st floor windows; slightly raised quoins.

NW (PRINCIPAL; MARLBOROUGH STREET) ELEVATION: consoled and corniced doorpiece with tablet above, deep-set modern door and plate glass fanlight; window at 1st floor above at 3rd bay to right. Window to each floor of remaining bays.

NE (STRAITON PLACE) ELEVATION: irregularly disposed; blinded windows to each floor of bay to centre, name of house, now faded, painted in upper section of 1st floor blinded window. Windows to each floor of flanking bays.

SW (REAR) ELEVATION: windows to ground and 1st floor in bay right of centre.

12-pane and plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate piended roof; lean-to slate roof to extension. Wallhead, painted and coped stacks to each elevation; except NW.

INTERIOR: not seen, 1994.

BOUNDARY WALLS: heightened harled and painted.
