Earlier 19th century. 3-storey, 7-bay former printing works. Coursed cream sandstone rubble. Right bay with modern architraved corniced doorpiece. Taller windows at 2nd floor hard under eaves.
Irregular 3-storey rear elevation with garages at ground.
Timber sash and case 12-pane windows. Ashlar coped skews; stacks removed; grey slates.
INTERIOR: not seen 1995.
Kirkwood shows a different large 2-storey 4-bay building. A Group with Nos 26-66 (even nos) Thistle Street as part of Edinburgh?s New Town, one of the most important and best preserved examples of urban planning in Britain. Thistle Street was built as plainer artisan dwellings and workshops and has survived with few significant alterations.
