Attributed Thomas Brown, circa 1824. Corner block of 3-storey and basement tenement flats; 5 bays to N, 7 bays to E. Droved cream sandstone ashlar. Dividing band between basement and ground and between ground and 1st floors; prominent eaves cornice.
N ELEVATION: channelled ground floor. 5-bay, regularly fenestrated; timber panelled door with plate glass fanlight in centre bay.
W ELEVATION: plain droved ashlar. Regularly fenestrated; blind windows to outer right bay. Doors in alternate bays with stone steps and platts over-arching basement recess. Entrance to No 20 in narrow recessed bay to left. Stone steps down to basement areas.
12-pane glazing (15-pane to 1st floor) glazing in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with circular cans at ridges.
BOUNDARY WALL AND RAILINGS: spear-headed cast-iron railings on low coped stone wall to basement areas; some gates still remaining.
B Group comprises Nos 1-5, 6-8, 9-15A, 16-20, 30, 31 and 31A Trinity Crescent. Trinity Crescent was part of an ambitious scheme (largely unbuilt) laid out circa 1824, to comprise 2 concentric crescents and 2 parallel streets (Russell Place and York Road), radiating out from the Chain Pier. Only Nos 6-8, 16-21 and No 31 Trinity Crescent were built at this time. The arrival of the railway seems to have blighted the development.
