Description

Later 19th century. Flat-roofed single storey rectangular-plan former billiards-house. Squared and snecked stugged sandstone. 3 bays to S and W divided by large Jacobean balusters on pediments with strapwork decoration, surmounted by fluted blocks and cornice of earlier origin (circa 1840) from another site. Moulded cornice and blocking course.

S ELEVATION: 2-leaf timber panelled door in moulded stop-chamfered surround with Greek key design below cornice, flanked by corniced windows.

LAMP STANDARDS: 2 decorative cast-iron lamp standards flanking S elevation.

Plate glass in timber sash and case windows. Felted flat roof.

Statement of Interest

B group comprises the Garden Pavilion and former Billiards House at Bella Vista, a house built in 1801, but much enlarged in 1875 and further altered at later dates. The balusters may originally have been part of a balustrade, having been split for use at Bella Vista. An extra one has been placed against the adjoining
