Description

David Macgibbon of MacGibbon & Ross, dated 1874. Single storey, 3-bay L-plan lodge. Squared and snecked sandstone with polished dressings. Long and short quoins; stop-chamfered margins.

W ENTRANCE elevation: open porch set in re-entrant angle at centre, formed with bay to right; timber columns, bargeboards and eaves; lead finial; panelled door. Window in advanced gabled bay toouter right; blank heraldic shield set in gablehead. Window in bay to outer left.

N GRANGE LOAN elevation: datestone set in gablehead.

E BLACKFORD AVENUE elevation: secondary doorway; irregular fenestration.S elevation: flat-roofed garaging adjoining. Replacement windows with top hoppers. Grey slate roof, gabled to N, piended to S; tall coped circular section gablehead and shouldered wallhead stacks. BOUNDARY WALLS: squared and snecked rubble boundary walls to streets; saddleback ashlar coping; pedestrian gateway to Blackford Avenue; boarded gate with decorative iron hinges.

Statement of Interest

This was the lodge to Ashfield, David MacGibbons own house, which formerly stood to the S (demolished 1970).
