Description

Circa 1885. 4-storey Scottish 17th century style tenement with corner tower. Squared and snecked sandstone with contrasting polished ashlar dressings. Base course; cornices above ground and 2nd floors; string course above 1st floor; chamfered reveals; roll-moulded doorways; deep-set panelled doors; plate glass sash and case fanlights.

E MARCHMONT ROAD elevation: 3-bay. Doorway with single window flanking in 1st bay; single windows above. Single windows in 2nd bay. 1st and 2nd bays linked above eaves by crowstepped gable; square blank tablet set in gablehead. Full-height canted window in bay to outer right, corbelled to square at crowstepped gable. Tower adjoining to outer left.

CORNER TOWER: 4-stage circular section tower; 3 single windows to each section; cornice to 3rd floor; conical roof; decorative cast-iron finial.S THIRLESTANE ROAD elevation: 3-bay. Doorway in 3rd bay flanked by single window; single windows above. Doorway in 2nd bay; single windows above.2nd and 3rd bays linked above eaves by crowstepped gable; bracketted and pedimented frame to datestone set in gablehead. Full-height canted window in bay to outer left, corbelled to square at crowstepped gable; dressings form window aprons. Tower adjoining to outer right. Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; corniced gablehead stacks; moulded cans; scrolled skewputts; 2 square blank tablets at 1st floor to S, 1 to E.

INTERIORS: not seen 1991.

Low boundary wall to streets.
