Description

Alexander W Macnaughton, 1881. 4-storey, irregular 5-bay tenement with Baronial details, forming part of terrace. Coursed orange sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Base course; band course above ground floor; string course above 1st floor and at 3rd floor; raised and lugged window surrounds; chamfered reveals; panelled doors; plate glass fanlights. S ENTRANCE elevation: 3 doorways, in 4th bay, between 1st and 2nd bays, and between 2nd and 3rd bays. Full-height canted window in 2nd bay; heavily bracketted cornice; crenellated parapet, forming balcony to hoodmoulded gablehead window; crowstepped gable. Full-height canted window in 5th bay; moulded semi-circular corbels to cill at 3rd floor; 4-light canted window at 3rd floor, corbelled to square gablehead above; small hoodmoulded window set in gablehead. Single windows in 1st, 3rd and 4th bays with corniced and coped moulded wallhead stack between latter; pediment moulding and inset diamond-shaped panel. Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; coped mutual stacks.

INTERIORS: not seen 1991.

Low boundary coping tostreet. Some original cast-iron spearhead railings remaining to W mutual boundary.
