Architect, Mr Bisset, 1862-63. Gothic, rectangular plan.
Coursed rubble, tooled ashlar dressings. Gable end to
South Street with paired centre doorways recessed under
moulded Gothic arch with nook shafts and centre colonette
to trumeau; 3 trefoil lights in tympanum; string course
at impose level; 6 arcaded lancets (2 blind) above with
nook shafts and continuous hoodmould; louvred bull's
eye above and crocketted finial to apex. 5-bay flanks to
Hall Place, with paired Gpthic lancets and alternating
buttresses. Angle buttresses; steeply pitched slate
roof; lattice glazing.
Simple Gothic galleried interior (gallery now divided by
internal screen).
Ecclesiastical building in use as such.
Former Elgin South Street United Presbyterian Church. Dated
1863 above doorway.
Corner site with Hall Place. Quarrywood free-stone from
quarries of Humphrey and Rennie; slates probably from
Foudland or Gartly, Aberdeenshire.
