Description

Circa 1800. House of 2 storeys and dormerless attic, 5 bays
with centre door and later 19th-century square-plan
parapetted and pilastered porch. Red sandstone ashlar with
dressings of yellowish ashlar, porch of grey ashlar. Harled
gables and rear. Moulded eaves cornice; decorated scrolled
skewputts. 12-pane sashes, centre 1st floor front window being
blind but glazed.
Original circular stairtower at rear with curved piended
roof encased in late 19th century gabled wing. West Highland
slate roof. Modern single storey addition to east.
2 single storey ranges in garden, one a stable and one a
cottage facing Academy Street altered for garage use. High
garden rubble walls; red ashlar square gate piers with
fluted band course below moulded square cope. Cast iron gates;
flanking railings with spearheads and urns mounted on low wall.

Statement of Interest

Coursed rubble masonry ground floor front elevation may

indicate re-use of earlier walling.
