Late 19th century 2-storey villa, L-plan 3-bay front, 1st floor windows with slim colonettes set in to jambs or as mullions; canted window in left bay has iron-finialed roof, doorcase in centre; polished ashlar, some channelled detailing; leaded glass diamond panes, secondary glazing; slate roofs; low recessed wing (? billiard room) to right with roof dome and with figurative leaded glass panels.
Gatepiers are panelled and have projecting caps; stepped boundary wall to street.
First occupant was John Robertson, writer, who probably commissioned the house which was formerly known as Belmont or Belmont Lodge. Both of the above noted alterations were for the second owner of the property, John Ewing Nelson.
