To SW of stables, beside River Cart, sawmill, power station and caul (= weir). SAWMILL may be mid 19th century; single storey and brick, much early machinery survives. 1888 Holyoake turbine replaces original
low-breast waterwheel; alongside, the late 19th/early 20th century 4 x 2-bay POWER STATION with domestic-looking windows, key-blocked roundels in gable-heads. Waverley turbine built by Carrick & Ritchie of Edinburgh; CAUL nearby in River Cart may be 18th century.
Rectangular-plan detached block (used 1990 as Countryside ranger's office) between sawmill and stables SW range is late 18th/early 19th century in appearance, but incorporates enormous stone blocks which may be re-used; lean-to on SW flank not original.
