Description

A B MacDonald 1892, completed 1895. 2-storey 13-bay classical
front to Police Office and Barracks. Ashlar. 5-bay centre
block channelled on ground floor with arched and voussoired
windows and central entrance under blindfolded Justice.
Sculptured frieze below 1st floor windows and sculptured
panels between them fronting courtroom with high panelled
ceiling. Centre armorial wallhead panel "Semper Vigilo".
Lower wings 4 bays each with shallow advanced end bays,
latter channelled at ground floor, rusticated quoins above
and a panel with sword and fasces. Nicholson Street
elevation: 2-storey 3-bay end to court room block, aedicule
with balustrade and dated shield. Adjoining 3-storey 11-bay
block, ground floor channelled, 5 central bays have keystones
on ground floor and lintels on 1st.
Oxford Lane: arched doorways at end of front block. Brick
cell block, 7 bays. Slate roof, ashlar stacks and pointed
bell-tower.
