H and D Barclay; dated 1895. Board school, a 2-storey block on gushet site in the "palazzo-style" characteristic of their Glasgow schools, using restrained Thomsonesque Greek ornament; stone-cleaned red ashlar, rock-faced, polished dressings; symmetrical N front with pedimented centrepiece, 3-light centre; 2-light outer windows, pilastered mullions at ground floor, Ionic-column mullions at 1st; original glazing, roughly T-shaped; prominent mutule cornice. Flanks are not identical, though boys'/girls' entrances are on opposite flanks; W flank to Cathcart Road is the more architectural and repeats mullion detailing of N front; inner entrance bay advanced and pedimented, sculptured spandrels over doorway, thermal window at eaves. Piended slate roofs, corniced stacks at and above wall-heads.
PLAYGROUND WALLS also rock-faced and stepped to slope, square
GATEPIERS, decorative wrought-rion gates and railings.
