Uploader's Comments

This summerhouse was built by James Traill an Edinburgh Lawyer in the 1720's in his garden on another site along Bridge Street. This house was demolished after a fire in 1938 and the Groatie House was eventually rebuilt on this site in 2005. Traditionally built from ballast from a captured pirate ship captained by John Gow. Groatie is a local word for a shell which were used to decorate the spire.
