Description

Benjamin Ferrey, 1847-8, large asymmetrical Jacobean house on sloping site. Entrance front to East: main house block is symmetrical, 2 storey, 3 bay, centre bay advanced and gabled, gothic entrance porch projects to left. To right single bay recessed link joins main block to service wing which breaks forward with large stepped chimney to south and gable to East: two storey and raised basement due to fall in ground. Original separate access from Waverley Road by means of steps and terrace with cast-iron balustrade.

SOUTH FRONT: pair gables with mullioned tripartite at ground right, canted bay to left; 1st floor windows later enlarged to tripartites. Coursed squared rubble with polished and stugged freestone dressings. Straight skews, slated roof, rectangular ashlar corniced stacks.
