Description

Probably 1869 and before 1873, built for the Waverley Hydropathic Company Ltd. Originally for the pumpman controlling the water supply from St Helen's Well. Built in mass concrete, with a fine render lined as ashlar (ground floor now pebble-dashed). 2-storey asymmetrical

cottage (said to have large tanks in the roof). Porch on E side, 1st floor entrance on the S. 1st floor windows and door with bold cast mouldings to the reveals, boldly moulded apron panels also cast. Mainly 4-pane glazing. Fish scale slate to porch; slate roof, large central stack.

Statement of Interest

The cottage, originally known as Concrete Cottage was in existence in 1873 when an agreement was made between Thomas Stevenson and the Waverley Hydropathic Co Ltd. The hotel was opened as a hydropathic hotel in 1869 and the assumption must be that the water system was on stream at that time.
