Description

Earlier 19th Century. 3-storey and attic, 8-bay tenement in irregular terrace. Sandstone ashlar to front, squared and snecked to side. Pilastraded ground floor, cornice above ground floor, eaves cornice and blocking course.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: section to left; 5-bay ground floor with entrance to centre, rectangular 2-pane fanlight, 2-leaf panelled doors, 2 windows flanking. 4 windows at 1st and 2nd floors symmetrically disposed, 2 centred dormers above. Section to right; 6-bay ground floor, blocked opening to left, entrance with 2-pane rectangular fanlight, pilastered jambs and flanking windows to right, 2 entrances to right, rectangular fanlights, that to extreme right with fine umbrella glazing. 4 windows at 1st and 2nd floors symmetrically disposed, inner bay to left blocked and blinded at both floors.

W ELEVATION: adjoining 24 - 27 Wharf Street.

E ELEVATION: blank gable end, 35 Wharf Street adjoining.

12-pane timber sash and case windows, modern replacements at 2nd floor and attic to W. Grey slate pitched roof, stone skews. Brick gablehead and ridge stacks with ashlar dressings.

Statement of Interest

A fine example of an earlier 19th Century tenement in an important position on the old Harbourfront.
