Description

T G Abercombie, architect. 1900. Free Renaissance. 3-storey
L-plan main block and 2-storey L-plan block attached.
Snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. Main block 3-bay
symmetrical front to New Street. All windows have roll-
mouldings and 2nd floor raised through eaves, outer windows
with pedimented dormer heads, and ball finials: 12-pane
sashes. Centre windows 1st and 2nd floor project on brackets
and are flanked by Ionic pilasters with frieze and cornice,
and semi-circular dormer head.
Slate roof with moulded straight skews curving up to
square skewputts.
Corniced end stacks. Long west elevation (to Weighhouse
Close) simply detailed. East gable elevation: moulded
segmental-headed doorpiece, windows to left linked vertically
by moulded panels with semi-circular pediment over 2nd.
2-storey block at right angles with 2 flat-headed doors,
and small window between, 12-pane sash window above, raised
through eaves and pedimented. Projecting wing at right with
2 ground floor sashes in moulded surrounds flanking carved
cartouche, and carved and pedimented sash above in gable.
