Description

Late 18th century. 2-storey and dormerless attic house, slightly set back and flanked by advanced single storey cottage wings (Nos 36 and 40 Cullen Street). Harled, rendered reveals. Small windows, slightly larger in 1st floor outer bays; 4-pane glazing in timber sash and case

windows. Circa 1820 canted oriel window projects above centre door, supported by 2 slender cast-iron columns; slate hung with centre segmental-headed lintel; segmental headed detailing to upper lights of fixed 9-pane centre and 6-pane outer windows. Piended and slightly bellcast slated roof.

Diminutive gable centre attic light; coped end stacks; flat skews with run-off skewputts; slate roof; sandstone ridge.

GARDEN WALL: garden at rear enclosed by rubble garden wall.

Statement of Interest

Marine Villa appears on 1802 plan of Portsoy. By 1817 both wings flanked Marine Villa. Unusual naive Regency type oriel window. Nos 36 and 40 Cullen Street separately listed.
