Description

Mid 19th century in present form but probably incorporating earlier work. 2-storey, 3-bay house with return gable to Low Street. Heavily pointed rubble, tooled contrasting ashlar sandstone dressings. Centre entrance in S elevation below substantial relieving arch. 1st floor

windows in outer bays only. Entrance and raised basement window in Low Street gable, also with wide relieving arch revealed in masonry; wide crudely chamfered SE angle about 2 metres high.

Single storey and attic irregular 4-bay wing extends from W gable with slightly advanced frontage of similar masonry as main house.

12-pane glazing in timber sash and case to main house, varied elsewhere; coped end stacks; slate roofs. 19th century rooflights to main house, modern velux to single storey attic.

17 Low Street was probably originally a cart or carriage house, these vehicles used to transport goods to and from the harbour.
