Circa 1820 with later additions and alterations. 3-storey, 3-bay tenement with shop accommodation at ground. Ashlar at ground; cherry-corked whinstone to upper storeys with painted ashlar dressings and droved ashlar tails; harled rear elevation. Cornice between ground and 1st floor; eaves course; long and short quoins.
NW (MARKET PLACE) ELEVATION: regularly-disposed bays to upper storeys, each bay and floor with window, those at 2nd floor smaller. Panelled 2-leaf door to centre flanked by fixed-pane plate glass shop windows. "Home of The Original Selkirk Bannock" painted between 2nd and 3rd storeys, 1996.
SW (KIRK WYND) ELEVATION: 2-bay. Gabled bay to left with line-render, painted to upper storeys with window to each floor to right. Painted whinstone rubble in 2-storey with attic bay to right with door and window to right, at ground; window at 1st floor.
4-pane timber sash and case windows at 2nd floor; plate glass timber sash and case windows at 1st floor of NW elevation. Slate roof with ashlar coped skews. Brick painted wallhead stack to gablehead of bay to left of SW elevation; harled wallhead stack to NE.
INTERIOR: not seen fully, 1996.
The building is in a very prominent position. There is a building on this site in 1823 (probably indisputably this building). There was formerly a terrace of houses built to the rear, on the NE.
