Description

Dated 1915. Single storey, L-plan building on corner site with stylised classical details. Harled with stone cills and polished ashlar dressings; deep base course, mutuled cornice and deep blocking course.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: canted corner with 4 steps up to deep-set 2-leaf panelled timber door with 2-pane and border-glazed fanlight in moulded doorcase with keystone and mutuled open pediment with flanking carved lionhead masks over date ?19??15?.

S ELEVATION: 5 windows with plain pilaster to outer right and left.

W ELEVATION: as S elevation.

Plated glass glazing in timber sash and case windows throughout. Grey slates. Cavetto coped harled stacks with cans, ashlar coped skews and cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

INTERIOR: 7-sided entrance hall with mosaic-tiled floor reflecting decorative plasterwork of ceiling with oval centre, 3 sides with keystoned round-headed arches. Decorative plasterwork cornicing and wainscot and dado panelling.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: low ashlar-coped harled boundary walls with squat square gatepiers.

Statement of Interest

Gifford describes this building effectively as ?Wrenaissance thinking of going Art Deco?. Listed in consideration of prominent corner position and good interior decoration.
