Circa 1930. T-plan, single storey nursery school and offices. Grey harled walls.
S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: full-length glazing; small-paned folding doors with frieze of small windows above including 22 panes of stained glass (see below); full-length, projecting, steel-framed, glazed canopy above.
E AND W ELEVATIONS: 2 large bipartite windows to school hall; variety of single and bipartite windows to offices to N.
12-pane and 6-pane, timber, sash and case windows. Grey slate piended roof; original vents with conical caps.
STAINED GLASS: 22 outstanding secular stained glass panels showing children at play by William Wilson; designed for the school in 1937.
The stained glass was commissioned by the City of Edinburgh as part of a scheme to bring the arts into community life: Tom Whalen?s fountain of the Mother and Child at Prestonfield primary school was also part of this initiative.
