Description

1936. Columnar post box with swept frieze to shallow-domed cap, dentilled at rim. Cast-iron. Base (painted black), shaft bearing 'EVIIIR' in raised lettering, with crown above and 'Post Office' below. Oval bracket crowning box with sign indicating direction of nearest post office.

Statement of Interest

One of very few post boxes cast in the short reign of Edward VIII and thus able to sport 'EVIIIR', and a fine example of the traditional box design with oval sign retained above. Sited at the end of the pier, presumably for the convenience of the ferry passengers.
