Description

Late 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay (7-bay at ground) symmetrical bank building with classical details. Polished red sandstone ashlar at ground; stugged red sandstone ashlar at 1st floor and to sides; polished dressings. Base course; frieze with modern fascia and dentilled cornice (consoled to centre) between ground and 1st floors; cill course at 1st floor; dentilled cornice to 3-light canted windows at 1st floor; consoled and corniced window to centre; string course, dentilled cornice; coped parapet with open fret section to centre. Regularly disposed pilasters with carved capitals defining each bay at ground; channelled pilasters defining each bay with advanced, rusticated pilasters to centre at 1st floor; roll-moulded surrounds to openings; coped terminal dies (also flanking fretted block to centre).

N (MAIN STREET) ELEVATION: deep-set round-arched doorway flanked by polished granite Corinthian columns in bay to centre; 2-leaf timber panelled doors with round-arched fanlight; modern glazed vestibule door; single window at 1st floor above. Window at ground in each bay flanking. Window at ground with 3-light canted window at 1st floor above in each bay to flanking. Deep-set, basket-arched doorway with 2-leaf timber-panelled doors, rectangular fanlight and modern vestibule door at ground in each bay to outer left and right.

Modified 2-pane timber sash and case windows at ground; 2-pane timber sash and case Windows at 1st floor. Roof not visible from street; ashlar coped stacks to E and W wallheads and to rear angles; tall stack to right of centre; polygonal cans; rainwater goods not visible.
