Description

Late 18th to early 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay, piend-roofed former smithy adjoining later timber building to W. Coursed, snecked rubble with droved margins. Stone mullions.

NE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Broad 2-leaf boarded timber door to centre with bipartite windows in flanking bays.

SE ELEVATION: piended; bipartite window to centre and extending to lower bay under catslide roof to outer left.

Small-pane glazing in fixed timber windows. Corrugated-iron roofing. Coped ashlar stacks with thackstanes.

Statement of Interest

Property of Strathmore Estates (Holding) Ltd. Formerly with 3 forges. 'Swivel' seat and some forge remains still in situ. Machine for hooping cart-wheels passed to Angus Folk Museum. Smiddy House listed separately.
