Description

Earlier 19th century. Single storey, 3 bay, rectangular plan cottage with later additions and alterations to rear. Tooled rubble with droved dressings. Base course; pilaster quoins; eaves course; deep overhanging eaves.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical; segmental arched doorway and window recesses with voussoirs; timber door to centre; segmental arched windows to flanking bays.

N ELEVATION: symmetrical; single bay; central segmental arched window recess. 20th century brick addition to outer right with central window in segmental arched recess.

W ELEVATION: asymmetrical; 3 bay; 2 bay 20th century brick addition to left with window to each bay; tooled rubble addition with stugged dressings to right; window with projecting cill to centre.

S ELEVATION: symmetrical; tripartite window to centre with blind outer panes; projecting cill. Addition to outer left with 20th century timber porch on rubble wall.

Predominantly 12 pane timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slate piended roof with lead ridges. Coped, harled, central ridge stack with circular cans. Cast iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

Picturesque cottage orne, contemporary with South Lodge (see separate listing Borthwick Parish), West Lodge and East Lodge (see separate listings Temple Parish).
